In about 1 to 2 percent of normal babies 1 out of 50 to 100 a tiny bubble of fluid is pinched off as the choroid plexus forms. The 2021 edition of ICD-10-CM O350XX0 became effective on October 1 2020.
At 21 weeks one was gone.
Bilateral choroid plexus cysts during pregnancy. Single or multiple cystic areas 2 mm in diameter in one or both choroid plexuses of the lateral cerebral ventricles. Associated with increased risk for trisomy 18 and possibly trisomy 21. Detailed ultrasound examination for presence of other markers of trisomies 18 and 21.
The cases were diagnosed during 16 - 25 gestational weeks. The diameters of the cysts varied from 02 cm to 24 cm. There were 25 cases of bilateral cysts and 30 cases of unilateral or 50 cases of isolated CPC and 5 cases of complicated CPC.
The cysts of all cases who continued pregnancy disappeared before 28 weeks. Choroid Plexus Cysts CPC are small fluid filled areas in the brain and they are a common ultrasound finding in the fetus during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy. To identify a chroid plexus cyst CPC it must be imaged in two orthogonal planes and be greater than or equal to 3 mm in size.

It is likely that in a high percentage of cases cysts are bilateral and that their recent discovery is mainly due to improvements in imaging technology. The cysts usually absorb and subside in the second trimester.
If they stick around until the third trimester it means they have overstayed their welcome and a potential health problem could exist for the baby. The ultrasound tech at my appointment two weeks later gave me good news and bad news. My lo also had the bilateral cysts at 19 weeks.
At 21 weeks one was gone. At 29 weeks no more cysts. Baby looked perfect otherwise.
Hes measuring a little big which is def not a sign of t18. Im 34 weeks now and not worried at all. Your level 2 with the peri will put you at ease.

During the procedure the radiologist discovered bilateral choroid plexus cysts on my babys brain and a calcification on the stomach. He discussed Trisomy 18 and abortion with me and my husband and absolutely horrified us.
